Hey friend! I want to share about how my journey with photography started and where I’m at now today! So let’s go back to the beginning where it all began…

When I was 14, my sister was in a band and they needed to take some band photos. My sister, Abigail, knew that I was always taking photos on my IPod touch and so she thought of me right away! I didn’t have a camera but one of my oldest sisters did, so I borrowed her camera and nervously agreed to photograph Abigail’s band. During that first session, my creativity came alive and a passion for photography developed instantly! I kept borrowing my sister’s camera and photographing anything and everything. I photographed Abigail’s senior photos, her boyfriend’s senior photos, one of his friend’s senior photos, my nieces and nephews newborn photos and everything in between. My sweet sister, Abigail, then pooled together some family members to help me buy my first camera. I still can’t even explain how much that meant to me and how that one gift that my sister gave me really started this whole company that I now own and run.

I photographed everything you can think of and here is a list just so you can visually see what I photographed in those first few years.

  • Band photos
  • Senior photos
  • Newborn photos
  • Children sessions
  • Family sessions
  • Birth photography (two of my sister’s let me document multiple births for them)
  • Couples sessions
  • Concerts
  • Cake smash sessions
  • Pet photography

And then…. When I was 17 years old, I got the opportunity to photograph my very first wedding. A childhood friend trusted me to document her outdoor forest ceremony. I had a photographer friend help second shoot for me since she had photographed weddings before and I needed all of the help, tips and tricks that I could get. The wedding went seamlessly and one of my photos was even on the news because the bride, Makayla, came from a family who famously had septuplets (yes, you read that right, that’s 7 babies). That wedding started a fire in me for documenting love and weddings. I photographed a few more weddings and then decided to pursue photography in college after I graduated.

In college, I got the opportunity to photograph everything from commercial photography to architecture photography. I graduated with my associates degree in photography but I still worked full time at Target. In the fall of 2020, I took a big leap and decided to go full time with photography in the middle of a pandemic. I felt this peace about taking that leap that I knew was from God and I went from photographing about 6 weddings a year, to photographing around 20 weddings a year after that. I also accepted a photography teaching job in the spring semester of 2021 at the same community college that I had just graduated from in 2018, which felt surreal! I taught a photography basics class, fashion photography, Portrait 1 and Portrait 2 while I was a teacher there and even implemented their first wedding photography section of their advanced portrait class. I held their first ever styled shoot which they still hold to this day. I taught for a few years before I decided that I needed to give my full time to weddings.

Since going full time with wedding photography in 2020, I’ve photographed 95 weddings and my total weddings photographed over these past 11 years have been over 100 weddings total. That still feels surreal to say and I’m so honored that I’ve been chosen by so many couples to document their love!

At the beginning of 2022 I felt a nudge to bring a fellow photographer into my business and start an associate team. She photographed her first wedding for me that October and then I brought another photographer onto my team. I love having a team of photographers under my brand who are passionate about giving the same experience to clients that I have, so having this team has been incredible over these last few years!

It has been a wild 14 years since I started photography, and an even crazier 11 years since I started wedding photography, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I love documenting peoples favorite day and getting a glimpse into so many love stories. If you’ve made it all the way to the end of this blog post, thank you. Thank you for supporting me, thank you for following along on my journey and thank you for being one of the reasons why I keep doing what I do!

Here’s to 11 more years of weddings in the future!

xoxo, Laura Nichole
